Another Day Off

I'm watching my cat try to go after a wood pecker that is on the outside of the house (the cat is on the inside). There are also turkeys voraciously pecking at the bird feeder that came down in the wind last night. It's my 3rd snow day today. 3 in December is very unusual and I'm a bit upset because it means I'm out $225. But there is some hope that I will get something accomplished today. Christmas shopping and grad school applications are high on the priority list. After all our snow last week is was up to 45 degrees, rainy and windy yesterday. Then early in the morning it dropped about 20 degrees and everything froze. Lovely. On the plus side I have four more days with these kids and this job and then it's officially the holidays.

Creatively Titled: First Post

I've finally decided to start a blog, so that all of you can keep track of my scattered life as I wander around the globe and hole up in various places along the way. Also to avoid working on my grad school applications and my lesson plans.

I will get you up to speed:
  • September - October I was on a round-the-country road trip with college friends Arlen, Paul, and Gaea (and Meg too, for a little bit). Check out http://m1fygoeswest.tumblr.com/
  • Mid-October I moved back to my parents house in Michigan
  • End of November I finally got a job, I'm now a high school Spanish teacher in Grant (it's a semi-permanent substitute position)
  • I've been working on graduate school applications and have narrowed it down to: UCSB, Cal. State Monterey Bay, Duke, and Stony Brook Un.
Back to the present day. We've gotten a ton of snow here in Michigan and I had two snowdays, today and yesterday! The perks of being a teacher and living in the north country, unfortunately though I need money, and I didn't really manage to get much accomplished in my two free days.

The second exciting bit of news is that Paul and I have decided to move back to Northampton together, probably some time in mid-January. I realized I need to take two semesters of calculus as a pre-req for all of the grad programs I am applying to, so I've enrolled in Calc. II at Hampshire. Should be an adventure since I haven't done much with calculus since my senior year in high school.

Ok, that's all for now. I'll probably forget to tell anyone about this and I'll probably forget to post on it, but it's a start.
